Are Police stations less prominent now ?

Short post this time but sometimes these are more thought provoking than the long ones.

One of the guys in the office had to take a relative to Heathrow and their car journey entailed passing through a number of different London areas.

On their way back during the evening they noticed a Police Station with its external blue sign lights on and the office guy commented that he could not remember the last time he saw a police station with lights on.

When he came into the office on Monday and told us we all looked at each other and we honestly could not recall seeing a Police station recently lit up like they use to be (yes we are mostly over 35 in the office !)

So, the question is, are Police stations less well lit than they use to be ? and if you agree then does anyone know why ?
